That Looks Great on You!

Clothes, fashion, and shopping for clothes. Jess and Maya spend a Saturday afternoon shopping on Queen Street — a green wool coat fits perfectly, the red trousers don't.

📖 Reading: Shopping with Jess

During her second visit to Toronto, Jess takes Maya shopping. They go to a large clothes shop on Queen Street.

"Oh, look at this coat!" says Jess, holding up a dark green wool coat.

"It's beautiful," says Maya. "Try it on!"

Jess tries it on. "What do you think? Does it suit me?"

"It looks amazing on you. The colour really suits you. But is it comfortable?"

"It's a bit too big. I need a smaller size." She asks the assistant. "Excuse me, do you have this in a medium?"

"Let me check… yes, here you go."

Jess tries on the medium. It fits perfectly. "I'll take it!"

Then Maya finds a pair of red trousers. She tries them on but they're too tight.

"I love the colour," she sighs. "But they don't fit."

"They look too small. Are they your size?" asks Jess.

"I think so, but they're not comfortable enough to wear."

"Try the next size up," says Jess.

Maya tries again. "Better! But now they're a bit loose around the waist."

"That's what belts are for!" laughs Jess.

They spend three hours in the shops. Jess buys the green coat. Maya buys nothing — but has a wonderful time trying everything on.

🎭 Dialogue: In the Changing Room

Maya tries on three different jackets while Jess gives feedback. They debate fit, colour, and how formal an outfit needs to be.

Maya

Jess, what do you think of this jacket?

Jess

It's lovely! But it's a bit too big. Have you tried the small?

Maya

Yes, the small is too tight. Nothing fits!

Jess

Ha! Try this one — it's a different cut. More relaxed.

Maya

Oh! This feels much better. Does it suit me?

Jess

It looks amazing on you. That colour really suits you!

Maya

Is it too casual though? I want something I can wear to meetings.

Jess

With the right trousers, it's perfect. Very professional!
