How Do You Get to Work?

Transport, routines & Present Simple review. Maya, Leo, Omar, and Jess compare commutes across Toronto and New York.

๐Ÿ“– Reading: Getting Around Toronto

Toronto is a big city, and everyone has a different way of getting around.

Maya usually works from home, so she doesn't commute every day. But when she goes to meet clients, she takes the subway. "It's fast and reliable," she says. "It only takes fifteen minutes to get downtown."

Leo goes to work at the coffee shop by bike most days. "It takes about twenty minutes and it's good exercise," he explains. "But in winter, when it snows, I take the bus. I don't like cycling in the ice!"

Omar lives far from the university, so he takes two buses to get there. "It takes almost an hour," he says. "But I use the time to study or listen to podcasts."

Jess lives in New York, where most people take the subway or walk. "I walk to work โ€” it's only ten minutes on foot," she says. "I love it. I see the city every morning."

"The best thing about Toronto," says Maya, "is that you don't really need a car. Public transport is excellent here."
