I Was Walking When...

Past Continuous — actions in progress. Leo runs into his old primary school teacher on a rainy Toronto evening.

📖 Reading: A Strange Evening

Last Tuesday, something unusual happened to Leo.

It was about 7 PM. Leo was walking home from the coffee shop. It was raining lightly and he was listening to music on his headphones.

He was thinking about his business exam when he suddenly heard someone calling his name.

He stopped and looked around. A woman was standing near a car on the other side of the street. She was waving at him.

Leo crossed the street. While he was talking to the woman, he realised she was his old primary school teacher, Mrs. Vargas!

"I was just thinking about you last week!" said Leo, surprised.

"Really? I was passing through Toronto and I saw you from my car. I almost didn't recognise you — you were wearing a hat!"

They stood on the corner and talked for twenty minutes. It was still raining, but neither of them noticed.

"What a coincidence!" said Leo later, telling Maya the story. "I was having the most ordinary evening, and then — surprise!"
